Lectors

Lectors proclaim the Word of God at all weekday and Sunday liturgies at both St Matthew (Hastings-on-Hudson) and Our Lady of Perpetual Help (Ardsley).

Lectors are assigned to Masses offered on Saturday evening, Sunday, and Holy Days.  There is no specific person assigned for the weekday Masses; however, lectors present at the Mass may volunteer their services.

Lectors should arrive at Mass 10-15 minutes early, enabling them to ensure that the readings are ready, to review the pronunciation of names listed in the Prayer of the Faithful, and to participate in the opening procession.

Lectors should rehearse their readings prior to Mass. To assist each lector in this task, the parish provides a special workbook as a resource for understanding each reading, as well as for help with pronunciation.  In addition, for lectors new to the ministry, a coaching session is provided.

Reader assignments are made in advance.  Lectors may select their preferred Mass, and have the opportunity to indicate their availability prior to scheduling.

Any adult or teen with a clear, strong speaking voice who is confident and comfortable talking in front of people is welcome to volunteer for this ministry.  Please contact the rectory for more information: 914-478-2822.
